چکیده

Tomlinson-Harashima multiuser precoding (THP) is a transmitter (Tx)-based multiple access interference (MAI) cancellation technique for Direct Sequence (DS) CodeDivision Multiple Access (CDMA) systems. This zero forcing (ZF)-based transmitter precoding method minimizes the mean square error at the receiver. It is suitable for the downlink since the receiver is as simple as the single user matched filter receiver. For frequencyselective fading channels, by combining THP with diversity techniques, we develop two specific designs, PreRAKETHP and Multipath Decorrelating THP (MDTHP), which provide desired performance-complexity trade-off. It is shown that the nonlinear THP designs outperform linear Tx-based methods and both linear and nonlinear receiver (Rx)-based decorrelating approaches. When the received users’ powers are unequal due to channel fading, the nonlinear precoders have better performance for weaker users. Therefore, they reduce total transmit power relative to linear precoders. In addition, in rapidly varying multipath fading channels, THP aided by the long-range channel prediction (LRP) method achieves almost the same performance as when the Channel State Information (CSI) is perfectly known at the transmitter.

Multiuser TH-precoding for TDD-CDMA over multipath channels

Nonlinear precoding schemes for downlink time-division duplex–CDMA systems over multipath fading channels, are considered. First, the capacity results of a downlink CDMA system with either multiuser detection or precoding, were obtained and compared. It is seen that the two schemes exhibit similar capacity regions for both sum rate and maximum equal rate, which motivates the development of effi...

Adaptive Transmitter Precoding for Time Division Duplex CDMA in Fading Multipath Channels: Strategy and Analysis

The recently developed blind adaptive techniques for multiuser detection in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems offer an attractive compromise of performance and complexity. However, the desire to further reduce complexity at the mobile unit has led to the investigation of techniques that move signal processing from the mobile unit to the base station. In this paper, we investigate tra...

Precoding for Downlink Block-Transmission in DS-CDMA Systems with Multipath Channels

We investigate precoding of the information symbols before spreading for downlink DS-CDMA systems subject to multipath fading. With precoding, a conventional receiver (RAKE) can achieve performance comparable to other suboptimal multiuser receivers, e.g. MMSE and ZF. We extend the work in [1] regarding constrained precoding for multipath channels and present closed form solutions. Through simul...

Spatial T-H Precoding for Packet Data Systems with Scheduling

This paper combines spatial Tomlinson-Harashima (TH) precoding with packet scheduling at the transmitter to improve the system-level performance of packet data systems. Under the assumptions of instantaneous and perfect channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter and independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) user channels with flat fading, the spatially equalized and decoupled mul...
